Governor LePage Signs Teen Dating Violence Awareness ...

Augusta - Governor LePage is working to end domestic violence in Maine.

On Tuesday, he signed a proclamation declaring this month, "Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month."

He was joined by members of the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence.

Together they're hoping to make people aware that abusive relationships can begin at a young age.

"I sign this proclamation with all my blood and energy towards helping the state of Maine rid itself of all forms of domestic violence," said Governor LePage.

Jill Barkley, Public Awareness and Prevention Coordinator at the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence, said, "We work with many adult victims across the state of Maine who are experiencing abuse in their relationships, but we also know that abuse can start as early as high school and middle school."

The coalition hopes Maine schools will teach teenagers how to have healthy relationships and prevent dating violence.
