Article Directory ? Super Rugby 2011 Wrap-up

The 2011 Super Rugby sporting competition was the number one time Super Rugby was contested with 15 franchises. Super Rugby has constantly been took part amongst franchises arising out of Australia, New Zealand and Australia. The Melbourne Rebels from Australia amalgamated in 2011, showing the inaugural time an equivalent total of franchises are from each country. 2011 was additionally the inaugural shot Super Rugby used a conference format. The five teams from each country forged a conference where each side contested each other twice. Each team also participated four franchises from each of the other two conferences.

One of the criticisms of the renewed Super Rugby plan is the certainty that not all of the franchises vie against each other. Two of Australia?s sides in particular, the Melbourne Rebels and Western Force are mentioned to be two of the poorer sides in the competition. The injustice is that all of the Australian teams get to contest those two weaker opponents twice and be apt to get greatest points. That said, some of the sides in the other two conferences will not get to engage those poorer rugby union sides at all. The Crusaders, speaking of, did not get to participate against the Rebels, who lost to all the other New Zealand teams. That disservice, not to mention being disrupted by earthquakes that destroyed their home ground, was not enough to block the Crusaders, who still came first in the New Zealand conference.

In the eventual wash up of the 2011 Super Rugby contest there were two teams from each conference who made the finals. The Queensland Reds came best of the pecking order, heavily influenced by prominent halves duo Will Genia and Quade Cooper. The South African came next with the aggressive defence orientated tendencies. Both teams seized a bye in the first week of the finals and an assured home semi final. Even though no NZ franchises got to the best two of the pecking order following the round robin, NZ probably had the most acknowledged sporting competition. Their lowest graded team, the Chiefs ended eleventh. This means all of their sides were ranked eleven and up and the worst four places were in use by Australian and South African franchises. New Zealand also made accommodate both quarter finals. That said, if the games go the way of the table then these could be the final Super Rugby matches in New Zealand this season. Not that this will mean much to their fans as the Blues stadium, Eden Park, was hardly fill for their first finals game since 2003. It may be New Zealand rugby union viewers are preserving themselves for the World Cup down the line this season.

The Sharks and the Waratahs provide the last six of the Super Rugby contest. The Waratahs hobbled into the finals being completely annihilated by injury. One of the best of the competition, Kurtley Beale was compelled to move to first five for the quarter final and their unwearying chieftain, retirement-bound Phil Waugh looked as if he vied most of the series on one leg. The Sharks had a mulligan of their Twickenham match against the Crusaders. However, they will have to be victorious over even more travel problems to get over the beating they got in London.
